Hoekstra Electrical Services Launches New In-House Apprenticeship Program

Company Develops Program as Need For Qualified Electricians Surpasses Availability

Holland, Michigan … Hoekstra Electrical Services, a local leader in commercial electrical and controls and automation services, has launched a new in-house electrical apprenticeship pro- gram at its 80 W. 64th St. facility in Holland, MI.

The Hoekstra Electrical Services apprenticeship program provides new or experienced appren- tices with opportunities to learn from peers, interact and learn from journeymen and grow their careers directly at a thriving electrical company versus the typical college setting. Apprentices learn all aspects of the trade through hands-on labs, free on-site electrical classes using nationally recognized curriculum, diversified learning from on the job training directly in various markets and one-on-one mentoring.

“We wanted to take our 19+ years of learning and knowledge and teach one of the top curricu- lums out there,” said Lee Hiler, one of Hoekstra’s journeyman and project managers helping to launch the new program. “We desired to invest more into our apprentices and be able to customize the learning and build relationships and encourage each other along the way. This program also allows us to give back and be involved in our community by providing electrical ed- ucation and a career path in a fun and challenging work environment.”

“We need more people advocating for trades people today,” said Denny Bouma, Operations Director at Hoekstra Electrical. “Hoekstra desires to continue to find ways to help those in the community, especially younger people, understand the advantages of learning a trade. It can be a really great career. We want to encourage young men and women to take a look at our program that is led from our company values; values like integrity, relationships, safety and gratitude to name a few. We want to invest in our people and treat them like family! That is the core reason we wanted to start this program, investment in our people, their skills and their character.”

Electricians are in high demand and are one of the highest paying trades out there. The cost of entry and training is low compared to other career paths. Anyone interested in joining the apprenticeship program is asked to call 616.796.9000.
